Biomimetic Dentistry

Biomimetic Dentistry

Emerging concepts in bio-emulation and biomimetic restorative dentistry (BRD) provide the ability to mimic nature while restoring biomechanics, structural, and esthetic integrity of teeth with utmost respect for biologic structures (pulp and periodontal tissues). Adhesive techniques constitute the cornerstone of BRD, and indications for bonded restorations have expanded to include more advanced destructive conditions such as severely broken-down teeth. As a result considerable improvements have been made, more sound tissue/tooth structure is preserved, tooth vitality is maintained, and treatment is less expensive than traditional and more invasive prosthodontics. BRD offers restorative solutions that balance the functional and esthetic needs of the dentition. A wide range of treatments using high-performance bonding with ceramics and composite resin materials are available to accommodate different needs of each patient. The lifelike features of these materials also contribute to their superior esthetics.
